While the Telangana government rejected hikes for Rajinikanth’s Coolie, the AP government has granted a massive enhancement of Rs. 75/- (including GST) in single screens and Rs. 100/- (including GST) in multiplexes on the prevailing rates. Additionally, the distributors were allowed to screen an extra show on August 14 at 5 A.M.
Interestingly, the hikes for Coolie are on par with the Tollywood biggie Kalki 2898 AD. The enhanced rates will be applicable for a period of 10 days, i.e., from August 14 to August 23. On the expected lines, the ticket price hike G.O. is drawing extreme reactions from audiences. Many are questioning why a dubbed film was allowed to have such exorbitant prices.
The massive ticket rates will definitely help the movie achieve a big opening in the first weekend, but it may discourage a section of the audience from visiting theatres. Additionally, if the expectations aren’t met, the same ticket rates could very much act against the movie.
