Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 was a massive disappointment for fans and cinephiles. This Shankar’s directorial failed to meet huge expectations and is declared as one of the biggest disasters in Tamil cinema. Netflix holds the post-theatrical streaming rights of this biggie.
Recently, OTT platforms have been offering lower prices than the promised amount, either if a film fails to generate good revenue at the ticket windows or if the public response is poor. In the case of Indian 2, both the box office performance and word of mouth are bad. According to a few reports, Indian 2’s OTT release is now in trouble as Netflix is trying to renegotiate the OTT deal with the film’s production house, Lyca Productions.
“Netflix offered a whopping price for Indian 2 initially, but upon seeing the poor response from the public, the digital platform is now willing to pay only half the promised amount. Indian 3 will hit the big screens next year, and the third installment is also at risk due to this renegotiation,” stated a report. It appears that Indian 2 will not arrive on OTT anytime soon.
