Ravi Mohan’s Bro Code Faces Legal Trouble – Here’s What Happened

A couple of months ago, Tamil actor Ravi Mohan launched his production banner, Ravi Mohan Studios, and announced its first project titled Bro Code, starring himself and SJ Suryah, with Karthik Yogi directing.

The promotion material was also dropped. However, the film soon ran into controversy after Delhi-based Indospirit Beverages Pvt. Ltd., the maker of the popular alcoholic drink BROCODE, claimed ownership of the name, which it has used since 2015.

Following the company’s complaint, the Delhi High Court restrained Ravi Mohan and his studio from using the title “Bro Code”, observing that it could mislead consumers or harm the brand’s reputation. While the studio argued that the title was purely creative and unrelated to the beverage, the court issued an interim order barring its use in promotions and publicity.

Earlier, the Madras High Court had allowed production to continue, but the Delhi order now prevents any public use of the title. The final verdict will decide whether the makers can retain the name or will have to rename the film before release.
