Kantara Chapter 1 OTT Release: Fans Upset with Makers’ Decision

Kantara Chapter 1 has emerged as India’s highest-grossing film of the year, and the team behind the blockbuster has every reason to celebrate. The film is now set for its digital debut, as Amazon Prime Video confirmed its streaming release on October 31, 2025, in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam, with the Hindi version arriving eight weeks later.

However, the decision for an early OTT release hasn’t gone down well with a section of the audience. Despite entering its fourth week, the film continues to draw over 70,000 ticket sales per day, leading many to argue that the makers should have delayed its digital release.

Sources reveal that the team’s agreement with Amazon Prime Video mandates the OTT release exactly four weeks after its theatrical debut, with an eight-week gap for the Hindi version. Postponing the release would reportedly require the makers to compensate the streamer, resulting in a significant financial loss.

With the film’s box-office run turning into a historic success, the team is now expecting it to replicate that feat on OTT. Kantara Chapter 1 features Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram, and Pramodh Shetty, with music composed by Ajaneesh Loknath and produced by Hombale Films.
