Remember the Kannada film Kabzaa, released in 2023, starring Upendra, Kichcha Sudeepa, and Shiva Rajkumar, and directed by R. Chandru? Although the film didn’t perform well at the box office, it was later renewed for a sequel, surprising many.
Recently, R. Chandru appeared on a YouTube interview to discuss his upcoming projects and productions. During the conversation, he made some surprising remarks about Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG.
According to Chandru, OG director Sujeeth was inspired by certain shots from Kabzaa. The Kannada filmmaker confidently stated that the OG trailer featured a few visuals resembling his film, and he expressed pride in that. He further clarified that inspiration is a natural part of creativity and should not be mistaken for plagiarism.
However, Chandru’s comments drew heavy backlash on social media. A clip of the interview went viral, with many users criticising him for doing an “average film” with stars and comparing it to a major hit like OG.
It remains to be seen how the OG team will respond – whether they choose to comment or ignore his statements.
Meanwhile, OG is set to premiere on Netflix tomorrow in multiple languages, except Hindi. The OTT release is expected to feature an uncut version, including scenes and dialogues that were missing from the theatrical release.
