Vishnu Manchu’s dream project Kannappa is off to a good start at the box office, thanks to Prabhas’ mighty stardom. The movie was directed by Bollywood filmmaker Mukesh Kumar Singh, who earlier helmed the popular TV show Mahabharat that aired on Star Plus.

Today, the makers of Kannappa held a thank-you meet in Hyderabad. One of the journalists asked Vishnu why he chose a Bollywood director for a film rooted in the Telugu heartland. Vishnu replied, “You (media) very well know that no director from Tollywood would be willing to work with me if I approached them with the Kannappa script.”

He added, “Also, my last few films didn’t perform well. Mukesh Kumar Singh brilliantly handled a show based on an Indian epic. Despite Kannappa being his debut feature film as a director, I entrusted him with the responsibility. He is a hidden gem, and I want to bring such talent to the forefront.”
