Star actress Samantha is aggressively promoting her ambitious mythological epic love saga, Shaakuntalam. The Gunashekar directorial is slated for a pan-Indian release on April 14. Yesterday, Sam and Shaakuntalam’s core team flew to Mumbai to promote the film’s Hindi version.
In her interaction with the Hindi film media, Sam said Shaakuntalam is for girls, women, and family audiences. “This hot summer, here is a film for the entire family. Let me just say, be prepared to be Disneyfied. Right from my childhood, I have always loved the Disney kind of genre. If I am happy, I watch Disney films. If I am sad, I watch them. Playing a Princess in a film like Shaakuntalam was special, given that she is a symbol of perfection,” Sam added.
Sam further said that her role in Shaakuntalam is what she could only dream of as a child. “This is not a simple story. There is love, there is betrayal, there is redemption… It was a complex character that was written many centuries ago,” she said.
Heaping praises on her director, Sam said Gunashekar is a feminist who wants to narrate great stories that happen to revolve around women and is not scared of risk-taking. Sam went on to say that producer Dil Raju had a lot of confidence in Shaakuntalam’s script. Shaakuntalam also features Malayalam hero Dev Mohan and Allu Arha in key roles.
