Oka Brundavanam is the recently released Telugu film now streaming on ETV Win. Here is our review to know how it fares.

Story:

Raja Vikram (Balu) aspires to go to the US for higher studies, while Mahi (Shinnova) is an independent young woman determined to complete her late mother’s unfinished work. Their paths cross when Mahi seeks Vikram’s help. Meanwhile, an orphan girl named Nainika (Sanvitha) longs to meet Joseph (Subhalekha Sudhakar), the man who sends her Christmas gifts every year but never meets her in person. How the girl connects with the young pair, and how they help her reach Joseph and uncover the bond between them, forms the core of the story.

Plus Points:

Despite being newcomers, Balu and Shinnova deliver decent performances. They keep their acting subtle and grounded, which adds a sense of realism to several scenes. Some of their combination scenes work well and are pleasant to watch.

The child actress Sanvitha also does a good job. She looks endearing and manages to express emotions convincingly on screen.

Kalyanee Raju and Sivaji Raja, though seen briefly, bring a touch of finesse to their roles. However, they don’t add much to the narrative. The rest of the supporting cast also perform their parts adequately.

Minus Points:

Though the story is simple and has some emotional potential, it feels slow due to its pacing. Some scenes initially offer hope, but once the second half begins, the film becomes more predictable, with several developments that are easy to foresee.

The director could have handled the emotional aspects with more depth. With a routine plot and slow narration, the film needed stronger emotional beats to keep the audience invested.

In particular, the relationships between Mahi and her father, and between Vikram and his parents, lacked emotional weight. These bonds had the potential to add depth and make the narrative more touching but were not explored effectively.

Subhalekha Sudhakar’s character also deserved better treatment. Since the girl’s journey revolves around meeting him, a more emotionally rich arc could have added more impact to the climax.

Technical Aspects:

While the direction stumbles, the cinematography and background score support the film well. The visuals are decent, and the songs are composed neatly, fitting the tone of the film. The production values are fine and reflect in the overall look. Editing is clean, and the 2-hour runtime feels manageable.

Verdict:

On the whole, Oka Brundavanam doesn’t offer anything new in terms of story, but it has very few emotional moments and scenes. The newcomers perform well in their roles. On the downside, the routine storyline, slow pacing, predictable second half, and underdeveloped emotional arcs hold the film back, making it just an okay watch.
