Vishnu Manchu’s Kannappa is scheduled for a grand release on June 27, 2025, in major Indian languages. The biggie also stars Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal in pivotal roles. Vishnu started promoting the film in Hindi. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Vishnu was asked if Gen Z would be interested in watching Kannappa.
Vishnu Manchu said, “Audiences are very smart. If they feel a film is promising, they will go and take a look at it. This is irrespective of the age group. A good example of this is Chhaava. It’s about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son, Sambhaji Maharaj. Why did a film about Maratha King’s story go housefuls in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Kochi?”
The actor added, “People resonated with Chhaava because of the phenomenal storytelling, great casting, and amazing direction. It did well because people wanted to know our history. Movies like Chhaava and Kannappa will make us own our history. Mr. Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji and Jodhaa Akbar are also good examples. Somewhere, we have stopped telling such deep-rooted stories.”
