Hindi folk horror film Tumbadd, directed by Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi, initially became a box office flop, but it slowly gained cult status among audiences. The film, produced and headlined by Sohum Shah, was re-released in 2024, and in the re-run, the horror film minted phenomenal collections.
Tumbbad 2 is currently in the making, and according to an exclusive report in Variety, Pen Studios, led by Jayantilal Gada, has come forward to produce the much-anticipated sequel. With Tumbbad 2, the makers promise to delve deeper into the universe that redefined fantasy-horror in Indian cinema.
Speaking about the collaboration, Sohum Shah said, “I have looked up to Jayantilal Gada ji’s work for many years. When I met him to discuss ‘Tumbbad 2,’ within just five minutes, he locked the deal. It’s the kind of faith every storyteller dreams of. The appreciation, respect, and love he showed towards ‘Tumbbad’ made me realize the film had truly received its due.”
Rahi Anil Barve won’t be directing the sequel due to other commitments. Adesh Prasad, who co-directed the original “Tumbbad,” is set to helm the new instalment, according to the report.
