Theaters can’t sell water bottles at insane prices anymore

In what can be termed a huge relief for moviegoers, the Hyderabad Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum yesterday ruled that cinema theaters can’t charge more than the MRP printed on water bottles.

The forum has made this ruling while imposing a fine of Rs.5,000 to a popular Hyderabad multiplex for selling water bottles at extra price.

An activist named Vijay Gopal had filed a complaint with the forum recently, alleging that the multiplex also didn’t allow him to carry his own water bottle and went on to charge Rs.50 for one bottle, which only costs Rs.20 in the market.

The forum has also directed all the city-based theater managements to provide free drinking water to moviegoers in the theater premises.
