War 2, starring Jr. NTR and Hrithik Roshan, ended up as a big flop at the box office. The movie was directed by Ayan Mukerji, who received heavy criticism for the way he handled the spy action thriller. Ayan was supposed to direct Dhoom 4, but according to an exclusive report in Bollywood Hungama, the director has decided to step away from the action flick.

The report mentioned, “Ayan believes that films like War 2 and Dhoom 4 were never meant for him, and he wants to do something much broader, with scope for romance and drama along with spectacle and strong storytelling. Ayan does not want to be on another journey of just execution, as he is a passionate filmmaker who prefers to work on the written material and bring more to the screen than what’s written.”

Ranbir Kapoor will headline Dhoom 4, which will be produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. The report also stated that Ayan Mukerji held multiple rounds of discussions with Ranbir and Aditya Chopra before parting ways amicably. Ayan is now focusing on Brahmastra 2, while YRF has begun scouting for a new director for Dhoom 4 as per the report.
