Pushpa 2 vs Interstellar: Janhvi Kapoor bats for Allu Arjun’s film

Hollywood biggie Interstellar was re-released recently on IMAX screens. The sci-fi thriller directed by Christopher Nolan is a favorite for many, but it wasn’t released in India. A debate started on social media that Interstellar’s re-release didn’t happen in India as all the IMAX screens were allotted to Pushpa 2.

An article was published with the heading “India doesn’t deserve cinema,” and netizens started trolling the Allu Arjun starrer. Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor has now defended Pushpa 2 by commenting on a post that degraded the sequel.

She wrote, “Pushpa 2 is also cinema. Why are we so obsessed with idolizing the West and running down things that come out of our own country and instantly disqualifying it from being considered worthy?” Janhvi also added that while the world celebrates our rooted stories, we tend to look down upon them, writing, “The same rooted representation and larger than life tone other countries appreciate and our fascinated by our cinema for, we ourselves are embarrassed of. Sad.”

Janhvi Kapoor’s comment has fueled the debate further as some appreciated her, while others trolled her. A user wrote that people who watch the West are behaving like they are in the upper class than the people who watch Indian films. Another user wrote that the audience should have both and then get to choose what they want to see.
