Acclaimed Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir, popular for his breathtaking performance in numerous Mollywood films, was reportedly arrested in connection with a financial fraud case. Soubin produced and played a key role in the 2024 Malayalam industry hit Manjummel Boys.

According to the reports, Soubin Shahir, along with producers Babu Shahir and Shawn Anthony, was arrested on Tuesday by the Maradu police in Kerala on charges of financial fraud related to Manjummel Boys. The film earned Rs 240.50 crore at the box office worldwide. Siraj Valiyaveettil, who invested Rs 7 crore in Manjummel Boys, filed a case, alleging that he was informed that the film’s total budget would be Rs 22 crore, but he got to know that only Rs 18.65 crore was spent on the film. He further alleged that he was not paid the 40 percent profit that he was promised.

As per the Maradu Police, the complainants were misled into believing that the first schedule of Manjummel Boys had been completed even before the film went on floors. However, Soubin and the other two co-producers were released on bail shortly after their arrest. The Kerala High Court, which granted anticipatory bail to the accused, had ruled that the trio could not be questioned in custody but directed them to cooperate with the police during the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court rejected the producers’ plea to quash the case. Manjummel Boys, directed by Chidambaram, is based on a real incident that occurred in 2006 at the Guna Caves in Kodaikanal. The film features an ensemble cast, including Sreenath Bhasi and Deepak Parambol.
