Lokah Controversy: IMAX Official Sets the Record Straight, Makers Respond, Fans React

Malayalam’s new superhero movie Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Neslan, hits theaters today, while its Telugu version, Kotha Lokah, releases tomorrow.

Hours before the release, the makers deleted a promotional post after receiving backlash and a correction from IMAX. The controversy arose because the team had promoted the film as an IMAX release. Fans were thrilled at the prospect of a premium viewing experience, until Preetham Daniel, Vice President of IMAX Corporation (India), clarified on X that Lokah is not releasing in IMAX anywhere.

Following this, producer Dulquer Salman and his team quickly took down the IMAX poster. Fans who were looking forward to a bigger, premium experience were clearly disappointed.

This isn’t the first time such confusion has happened. Not long ago, Rajinikanth’s Coolie was also promoted as an IMAX release, which didn’t go down well with audiences.

It’s a reminder that promoting a movie without IMAX approval can backfire, and makers need to be careful and responsible with their promotions.
