Actress Kalyani Priyadarshan is coming up with a female-centric superhero film, Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra. The movie is slated for release on August 28, coinciding with Onam. In Telugu, Naga Vamsi’s Sithara Entertainments is releasing the movie under the title Kotha Lokah. Directed by Dominic Arun, the movie is produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. Premalu Naslen stars in a prominent role.
The film’s teaser received a mind-blowing response and generated massive buzz. However, the hype surrounding Lokah is worrying the actress. Speaking in an interview with Galatta Plus, Kalyani said, “I am afraid because the teaser got more attention than what we expected. We’re a little afraid it might overhype the film as a Marvel or Dune sort of film. We want people to know they are still going to watch a Malayali film.”
She added, “Our industry is known for a specific type of filmmaking and storytelling. That won’t change in Lokah. We are not suddenly going away from what we are known for. The film combines superhero elements with things Malayalees are familiar with. It is still a Malayalam film, but with a unique touch to it. But at the end of the day, Lokah remains a Malayalam film.”
