The Hindi language police procedural crime drama titled Santosh, which received critical acclaim, has been denied certification for theatrical release in India, with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) objecting its depiction of police brutality, caste discrimination, and misogyny.

Written and directed by British-Indian filmmaker Sandhya Suri, Santosh is about a young widow who joins the police force and investigates the murder of a Dalit girl. While the theatrical release didn’t happen in India, Santosh is now set to thrill OTT viewers. The movie will be available for streaming from October 17 on Lionsgate Play.

We need to see what kind of response the movie will receive on OTT. Santosh premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was the U.K.’s official entry for the Oscars’ international feature category. It also earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Debut Feature. Shahana Goswami and Sunita Rajwar played the lead roles.
