Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 scripted history by becoming the highest Indian grosser of the year, beating Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava. The movie is still going strong in the Hindi and Karnataka circuits, with collections remaining rock steady.
Prime Video holds the post-theatrical streaming rights, and the film’s Hindi version will likely be available for streaming eight weeks after its theatrical release, somewhere around the last week of November. However, there is speculation that the other versions might arrive on OTT in the last week of October.
Will the makers opt for an early digital premiere since the movie is still drawing crowds and repeat audiences? That remains to be seen. There have been instances where the OTT release of multiple films was pushed back due to their strong theatrical run. We need to wait and see whether the Kantara makers stick to the regular four-week window for the South versions or take a different route this time.
