The only question everyone has been asking since the Varanasi title glimpse dropped is this: Will an IMAX screen ever come to the Telugu states before March 2027?
This curiosity exists because SS Rajamouli confirmed that the film will be shot for the IMAX (1.43:1) format, and audiences want to experience the magnum opus the way it was intended.
Preetham Daniel, Vice President of IMAX Corp, replied to users on X who requested that IMAX be brought back to Hyderabad. His answer was simple: the efforts are on.
When another user pointed out that Prasads Multiplex already has a huge screen, Preetham responded, “Let them know! I have had my share of conversations with them and have had no reply.”
Meanwhile, Asian Suneil Narang stated a few months ago that an IMAX screen is coming soon, and later added that he is still trying his best to bring it back.
Considering all these factors, setting up an IMAX theatre in Hyderabad within the next 1.5 years is not an easy task, unless the involved parties commit fully and invest significantly to deliver the best possible experience to audiences.
Let’s hope that Varanasi manages to screen on IMAX somewhere in the Telugu states. If that doesn’t happen, Telugu audiences may have to settle for the regular cinema-scope formats, like most other films.
Varanasi stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and others. The film is produced by KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya, with MM Keeravaani composing the soundtrack.
