A small-budget film named Santhana Prapthirasthu featuring Vikranth and Chandini Chowdary in the lead roles has now hit the big screens. Let’s see how the film is.

Story:

Chaitanya (Vikranth) is a software employee living in Hyderabad. He is an introvert by nature and finds it difficult to communicate with women. One day, he unexpectedly helps Kalyani (Chandini Chowdary), and their sudden meeting gradually blossoms into love.

However, Kalyani’s father (Muralidhar Goud) objects to their marriage, but the duo ties the knot against his wishes. The twist in the tale arises when Chaitanya learns that his sperm count is low. The kind of problems Chaitanya faces afterward forms the crux of the story.

Plus Points:

Santhana Prapthirasthu deals with a sensitive issue, which is “male infertility,” but presents it in a thoroughly entertaining manner. The best part is that the film never crosses the line or feels vulgar.

The movie largely banks on its comedy sequences, which work quite well. Much of the humor stems from Muralidhar Goud’s characterization, who hates the protagonist to the core. The father-in-law and son-in-law dynamic leaves us in splits.

Abhinav Gomatam adds an extra layer of fun, serving as the cherry on the cake in the entertainment quotient. The second half is very enjoyable with ample number of humourous moments. The whole film revolves majorly around three characters played by Vikranth, Chandini Chowdary, and Muralidhar Goud.

Compared to his debut, Vikranth showed very good improvement in his performance. As a person who tries to hide his defect and is tortured by his father-in-law, Vikranth played his part neatly, and his chemistry with both Chandini Chowdary and Muralidhar Goud works well.

Chandini’s role is the heart of the film, and the actress did a very fine job. She has that girl-next-door kind of presence and fits the bill perfectly. In emotional scenes, Chandini’s portrayal feels natural.

Muralidhar Goud is the absolute show-stealer of Santhana Prapthirasthu. His desperate attempts to create a gap between the lead pair offer plenty of laughs, and this man keeps getting better with each film. It’s hard not to adore his character. Vennela Kishore is solid, while Tharun Bhascker is decent.

Minus Points:

Santhana Prapthirasthu comes with its share of flaws, the major one being the emotional angle. This aspect isn’t bad at all, but it’s brought in a little too late, making the final portions and plot developments feel somewhat rushed.

The emotional scenes are handled decently, but as mentioned earlier, had these moments been introduced a bit earlier, the film could have gone to the next level. As a result, Santhana Prapthirasthu ends up as a fun outing, with the emotional depth taking a backseat due to its screentime.

The initial portions are a bit slow and the editing could have been a bit sharper. The love portions in the first half are generic in nature, but the comedy keeps the film afloat in this hour.

Technical Aspects:

The music and background score by Sunil Kashyap are decent. Mahi Reddy Pandugula’s visuals are neat and the production values are good. The editing is satisfactory in the second half, though it could have been better in the first half.

Director Sanjeev Reddy did a good job handling a bold topic. His treatment is filled with humor throughout. Except for the underwhelming initial portions, his work is quite effective. He deserves appreciation for touching upon a sensitive topic and presenting it in a pleasing manner.

Verdict :

On the whole, Santhana Prapthirasthu tackles the issue of male infertility in a family-friendly way. The humor works for the most part, with several jokes landing well. Vikranth, Chandini Chowdary, and Muralidhar Goud excel in their roles. However, the emotional angle comes in a bit too late, and hence one gets a feeling that the humor dominated the emotional moments. The initial portions also could have been better handled. Hence, Santhana Prapthirasthu ends up being a decent watch this weekend.
