A major dispute has broken out between OTT platforms ETV Win and ZEE5 over alleged plagiarism. The controversy surrounds ZEE5’s upcoming web series Viratapalem: PC Meena Reporting, which is slated for release on June 27. The creators of ETV Win’s original series Constable Kanakam have accused ZEE5 of copying their content.
In a press meet today, director Prasanth Kumar Dimmala stated that he had earlier pitched the concept and submitted the full screenplay to ZEE5. He alleged that the platform used his script without permission for their new project, Viratapalem:PC Meena Reporting.
Constable Kanakam, starring Varsha Bollamma, began filming in December 2024. The makers revealed that the show was officially registered back in 2022. Constable Kanakam makers have now taken legal action and are committed to pursuing the case to protect their intellectual property. We need to see what happens next.
