Coolie: Hindi version title changed after heavy backlash

Superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie is undoubtedly the most anticipated South Indian film at the moment. However, in the North Indian market, the film is set to face stiff competition from War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR.

To cater to the Hindi-speaking audience, the makers have titled Coolie’s Hindi version as Majadoor. This move, however, has sparked criticism from northern audiences. Many felt that Majadoor lacks the intensity and mass appeal carried by the original title Coolie. Some even remarked that it sounds like a generic, low-effort title used for dubbed South Indian films.

The backlash has stirred concern among fans, who felt the title may undermine the film’s larger-than-life image in the Hindi belt. Taking the feedback into consideration the makers have now changed the Hindi version’s title to ‘Coolie The Powerhouse.’ This definitely looks much better than Majadoor, and the same is being said by netizens.

The makers of Rajini starrer couldn’t use the title ‘Coolie’ in Hindi as it is also the title of Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic film. It is good that the makers of such a tent-pole film have considered the social media criticism before any major damage was done. Backed by Sun Pictures, Coolie also features Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Hassan, and Soubin Shahir in key roles. Anirudh is the music composer.
