Vicky Kaushal’s most anticipated historical drama, Chhaava, is hitting the big screens on February 14. The movie, directed by Laxman Utekar, stars Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. The film is based on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s life. The theatrical trailer contained a lezim dance sequence featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika, and it soon landed in a controversy as it hurt the sentiments of Sambhaji Maharaj’s followers.
After massive criticism, the director deleted the whole sequence from the film. In a recent interview, Vicky Kaushal opened up about this controversial scene. He said, “Our intention was always right and clean from the very beginning. The sequence was an effort to promote Maharashtra’s culture worldwide. Not a single day went by without the Shivgarjana on the sets.”
“Sambhaji Maharaj was the king of the people, and if someone asked him to play lezim with them, he would have definitely agreed. But as the Maharaj’s followers felt it was not apt, we decided to remove the lezim sequence from the film,” noted Vicky Kaushal. Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films produced this flick.
