The historical film Chhaava, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, hit the screens yesterday. National Award-winning actor Vicky Kaushal played the titular role, and Rashmika Mandanna played the female lead. Akshaye Kanna essayed the role of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The film was released amidst very good hype.
After the trailer dropped online, trade pundits predicted that Chhaava would collect about Rs. 15 crores nett. However, as the buzz kept increasing, the estimates were revised to Rs. 25 crores nett. This Vicky Kaushal starrer surprised everyone and collected a phenomenal Rs. 33 crores nett, beating all the pre-release expectations.
Chhaava is Vicky Kaushal’s biggest-ever opener, surpassing his previous best (Bad Newz – 8.62 crs nett) by a mammoth margin. The film reported stunning occupancies right from the early morning shows, indicating the solid hype. Chhaava is also Bollywood’s biggest opener in 2025, and as expected, the movie saw a thunderous response in Maharastra.
Chhaava received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics, and word-of-mouth was also highly favorable. The movie is registering solid growth today on Book My Show, and the weekend collections will be in the vicinity of Rs. 120 crores nett. The lifetime numbers depend on Monday’s hold.
