Kantara, headlined and directed by Rishab Shetty, sprung a surprise with its mind-blowing performance, collecting over Rs. 400 crores globally. Not just in Kannada, the film struck a chord with Telugu and Hindi audiences as well. Now the excitement is building for its prequel, Kantara: Chapter 1, scheduled for release on October 2.

The Telugu states’ theatrical rights are reportedly being sold for around Rs. 100 crores, and this news has shocked many. The latest buzz about Tamil Nadu’s rights is sending similar shockwaves. The business there is said to be closed at a mammoth Rs. 32 crores.

The first part earned around Rs. 6 crores share in the state, and hence, some are calling it a risky move to sell rights at such a huge price. Kantara: Chapter 1 will clash with Dhanush’s Idli Kadai, and it remains to be seen how the prequel fares in the competition.
