Actress Gouri Kishan is currently busy promoting her new Tamil film Others, which is set to hit the big screens on November 7. Ahead of the release, the actress, along with director Abin Hariharan and male protagonist Aditya Madhavan, attended a press meet in Chennai where an uncomfortable moment unfolded.
A journalist inappropriately asked Gouri about her weight, and this led to a heated exchange. The journalist tried to defend his question, but Gouri, who was visibly taken aback, called it a stupid query. She said, “How does my weight concern you? How is it relevant to this film?”
After Gouri’s initial reaction, some media personnel sided with the journalist. The actress became furious and firmly stated that body shaming should never be normalised and that she has every right to voice her opinion.
Expressing disappointment, Gouri added that only female actors are subjected to such scrutiny and objectification. Following the incident, netizens came out in strong support of the actress. They criticized not only the journalist but also the film’s hero and director for staying silent instead of defending Gouri.
Gowri did an amazing job. The moment you call out a disrespectful and an unnecessary question – a whole lot of shouting down happens.
So proud that someone so young stood her ground and pushed back.No male actor gets asked what his weight is. No idea why they asked a female… pic.twitter.com/BtKO6U7lpQ
