Tamil star actor-director duo Rajinikanth and Shankar’s sci-fi thriller, 2.0, released last year and went on to gross over Rs 700 crores across the world. The film’s Chinese version, 2.0 Resurgence, hit theaters across China on September 6 in over 50,000 screens.

However, 2.0 Resurgence has disappointed fans and trade circles by opening to underwhelming reports. Even the film’s box-office revenues are quite poor. Until Saturday, the film could collect a meager gross of $2.5 million. With the Sunday trends being poor, the film’s fate at the box-office remains uncertain. Leading Chinese film distributor HY Media has invested nearly $25 million on 2.0 Resurgence’s Chinese rights.

Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson played important roles in 2.0. Lyca Productions had bankrolled this magnum opus. AR Rahman had scored the soundtrack.
