The first part of legendary director Mani Ratnam’s long-cherished dream project, Ponniyin Selvan, released in cinemas worldwide on September 30. This epic multi-starrer magnum opus went on to become a huge blockbuster at the box office. The film had grossed over Rs 500 crore internationally and ended up as the 4th highest grossing Tamil movie of all time.
This evening, Ponniyin Selvan makers revealed a special video to announce that the film’s sequel, Ponniyin Selvan 2, will be hitting theaters in just 100 days. The film is slated for a grand worldwide release on April 28. The film features an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Trisha, with its soundtrack composed by AR Rahman.
Ponniyin Selvan is based on the epic Tamil novel of the same title authored by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The film narrates the legacy of the iconic Tamil rulers, The Cholas.
