Chiranjeevi’s films are known for songs, and particularly Yamaha Nagari from Chudalani Vundhi holds a special place. The song sung by Hariharan and composed by Mani Sharma is still a favorite for musicophiles. Late Veturi Sundararama Murthy Garu penned the lyrics. Gunsekhar, the director of Chudalani Vundhi, has revealed the full story behind this song now in an interview.
The anchor said that Gunasekhar indeed took a huge risk by going ahead with a melody for the first song in the film as it is a Chiru’s film. Gunasekhar said it is a situational song, and it was there in the script. He stated that the song is meant for Telugu people in Calcutta. Gunasekhar said that he and Mani Sharma Garu okayed a tune, and Ashwini Dutt liked it.
Gunasekhar said,” Mani Sharma Garu said he will get the tune ready so that we can take it to Chiru Garu. But Ashwini Dutt Garu wanted us to complete the full song and recording. As per Dutt Garu, judging this song just by tune is not easy. Recording the entire song will cost a lot of money, but Dutt Garu had the guts and supported us. Hariharan Garu worked so hard for the song. Hariharan Garu said that this song is a gift to his wife, who is a Bengali.”
Gunasekhar continued, “We recorded the song in Chennai. Then, I came to Hyderabad to meet Chiranjeevi Garu. Sir was on the sets of Baavagaru Bagunnara. They were shooting Aunty Koothura Ammo Apsara song. That was a mass song, and I went there with a melody. I was more nervous. Chiranjeevi Garu listened to the song, and he enjoyed it immensely. He asked Rambha to listen to the song, and she said it was very new. Chiranjeevi Garu is the best at encouraging new aspects. If he hadn’t approved the song, we wouldn’t have been able to talk about it today. He broke the stereotypes of his mass image and okayed this song.”
