Ranveer Singh has been building momentum for his upcoming film Dhurandhar, set to hit theatres on December 5, 2025. His confidence around the release took a hit after the IFFI 2025 closing ceremony, where he stepped in as a host for a short segment and sparked a major backlash.
While appreciating Rishab Shetty’s performance in Kantara: Chapter 1, Ranveer called Chamundi a “female ghost” and copied the scream from the film. The moment offended Kannadigas, who saw it as a mockery of a divine figure. The clip quickly spread online, and social media users called him out for the insensitive comment and demanded a public apology. Rishab Shetty, who was present at the venue, did not respond during the event.
The controversy has now placed Ranveer under pressure, and many are waiting to see if he will come forward with an apology to address the anger.
This incident follows Deepika Padukone’s exit from two major Tollywood projects, Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD, after she stuck to her eight hour workday rule, prompting the makers to replace her.
Meanwhile, Kantara Chapter 1 Hindi version made its entry into Amazon Prime Video and the reception is decent. Stay tuned for more updates.
