Madharaasi marks the first collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and AR Murugadoss. The Amaran actor is undoubtedly one of the most bankable stars in Tamil cinema today, but the buzz around Madharaasi is relatively low, and it is not because of the actor.
AR Murugadoss has gone through a string of failures lately, which is why Madharaasi’s advances are not up to the mark. Especially, the director’s last two films, Sikandar and Darbaar, ended up being heavy losses. Creatively too, both films were utterly disappointing.
Some say Murugadoss is past his prime and reluctant to adapt to changing people’s preferences. Hence, word of mouth will hold the key for Madharaasi. Amaran was a blockbuster in the Telugu states as well, but that isn’t helping Madharaasi due to the director’s poor form.
If the reports are good, Madharaasi can put up a strong show at the box office. Otherwise, the action-packed thriller will face a tough road. If the film doesn’t do well, it won’t cause much damage to Sivakarthikeyan, whose lineup looks solid, but for Murugadoss, its success is a must.
