Bollywood Megastar Salman Khan’s next release is Sikandar. The film marks the return of Murugadoss to Hindi cinema after 17 long years. The latest sensation, Rashmika Mandanna, plays the female lead. There isn’t much hype around the project since the makers didn’t reveal anything impactful or significant to date.
Adding to the low buzz, the latest update about the project is now worrying fans. Accordingly, Sikandar will open in cinemas on Sunday, March 30. Salman’s previous release, Tiger 3, also had a Sunday release, which limited its box office prospects, and now the star is repeating the same mistake with Sikandar.
Generally, there won’t be much revenue during pre-Diwali and pre-Eid, and this is the reason Salman opted for a Sunday release in both cases. However, the point that is being overlooked here is that the makers are letting go of the weekend numbers, which ultimately amounts to a shortfall in the film’s overall collections.
Sikandar might not get a bumper or record-breaking opening during pre-Eid, but the makers are losing out on the two-day (Friday and Saturday) collections by choosing a Sunday release. Sikandar going the Tiger 3 way is also raising unnecessary doubts about the product. If the film isn’t good, it will start witnessing massive drops on weekdays.
Without the usual first-weekend contribution, the overall collections will appear less than what they actually are. Tiger 3 had below-par content, and due to the Sunday release, it wrapped below Rs. 300 crores nett in India. Had it been released on Friday or Thursday, the final number would have been over Rs. 350 crores nett. Salman failed to learn a lesson from Tiger 3, and now it all depends on what Murugadoss has in store.
