Lokah, headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan, is the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. The superhero film, directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, had a dream run in theatres and is currently streaming on Jio Hotstar.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Dulquer Salmaan revealed that the film initially received a surprisingly low offer for its digital rights, and the reason will leave many stunned.
“The film went twice over the estimated budget. Nobody wanted to buy it. The film was initially offered a low amount by an OTT platform since Tovino Thomas and I appear only for a few minutes. Earlier, some people even told me that the OTT offer would increase if I appeared for over 30 minutes,” said Dulquer Salmaan.
While Dulquer’s statement is surprising many, some feel OTT platforms are trying their best to play it safe lately due to the substandard quality of big films. Lokah also stars Naslen K. Gafoor, Arun Kurian, and Chandu Salim Kumar in key roles. The next part of the superhero franchise will be led by Tovino Thomas.
