Ramayan, the ambitious 3-part mythological magnum opus, is one of the most eagerly awaited pan-India biggies to come out of Bollywood. The much-talked-about trilogy will feature Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, while the talented and gorgeous Sai Pallavi will be seen as Goddess Sita. Directed by Dangal fame Nitesh Tiwari, the film will be going on floors in March this year.
Now, the latest buzz in the Bollywood circles reveals that popular actress Rakul Preet Singh was offered Surpanakha’s role and she is in advanced talks to sign on the dotted line. Surpanakha was Ravan’s younger sister, and her presence in the Ramayan, even though limited, is highly impactful.
While an official announcement is awaited, popular stars such as Yash (Ravan), Sunny Deol (Lord Hanuman), Vijay Sethupathi (Vibhishan), and others will be essaying key roles in this multi-crore project. Senior Tollywood producer Allu Aravind and Bollywood filmmakers Madhu Mantena and Namit Malhotra are jointly bankrolling the project. The film is expected to hit theaters during Diwali, 2025.
