Superstar Rajinikanth’s Padayappa is heading back to theatres 25 years after it first hit the screens, with the re-release slated for December 12, 2025 – the actor’s birthday. And before fans could even begin counting down, AR Rahman dropped a surprise of his own.
The composer, whose work played a huge part in the film’s original impact, has quietly released 33 tracks from the Padayappa score. The sudden OST (original soundtrack) release has thrilled fans, who’ve already begun revisiting the film’s familiar musical beats.
With the soundtrack now doing the rounds again, the excitement around the film’s return is only growing. The 1999 classic, directed by KS Ravikumar, boasts a memorable ensemble of Soundarya, Ramya Krishnan, Sivaji Ganesan, Lakshmi, Nassar, Abbas and more.
Whether the re-release can recreate even a slice of the film’s old box-office magic is something we’ll have to wait and see.
