OTT: Nithiin’s Thammudu Gets Cold Reception on Netflix After Theatrical Flop

Thammudu, which released in theatres on July 4, 2025, didn’t fare well at the box office, marking a disappointing outing for both Nithiin and producer Dil Raju. Directed by Venu Sriram, known for Vakeel Saab, the film attempted an emotional action narrative but couldn’t strike a chord with most viewers.

After its theatrical run, the film recently premiered on Netflix in Telugu as well as other South Indian languages. Unfortunately, the response on streaming platforms has mirrored its theatrical fate. Many viewers felt the film lacked freshness and engagement, with some expressing concern over Nithiin’s recent script choices.

The film features the Tollywood debuts of Sapthami Gowda and Swasika, along with the return of veteran actress Laya. While their presence brought some curiosity, their roles didn’t leave a strong impression. Varsha Bollamma managed a decent performance, though the impact overall remained limited.

There’s still hope for a turnaround. Nithiin and Dil Raju’s next film, Yellamma, directed by Balagam’s Venu Yeldandi, is already generating interest. A strong comeback might be just around the corner.
