The final nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning. Anuja, a short film backed by Indo-Hollywood actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Guneet Monga, has secured India’s only Oscar nomination this year. Anuja will compete with four other short films to clinch the prestigious golden statuette in the Best Live-Action Short category.
Anuja narrates the incredible story of a young Delhi garment factory worker named Anuja navigating challenging situations. Ananya Shanbhag portrayed the titular role and was directed by Adam J Graves and produced by his wife Suchitra Mattai in association with Mira Nair’s Salaam Baalak Trust, Shine Global, and Krushan Naik Films. The film will soon be available for streaming on Netflix.
Anuja will compete against Alien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger, and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent in the Best Live Action Short category at the Oscars 2025. The film marks Guneet Monga’s third nomination after the Oscar-winning ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ and ‘Period: End of Sentence’. The 97th Oscars will be hosted by Conan O’Brien. The prestigious ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2.
