Massive deal: Adar Poonawalla takes 50 percent stake in Dharma Productions

Dharma Productions, the 45-year-old iconic production house and distribution powerhouse led by Karan Johar, is making headlines for a monumental reason. Founded by Yash Johar in 1979 and later carried forward by Karan Johar, the company’s 50 percent stake has been officially sold, marking a major shift in its legacy.

The deal, valued at Rs. 1,000 crore, closed recently, with Adar Poonawalla of the Serum Institute of India acquiring half of the stakes in the renowned banner. While Karan Johar will continue to shape the company’s creative direction, Adar Poonawalla will step in as the CEO, ushering in a new chapter of leadership.

With a legacy spanning over four decades and more than 60 blockbuster films to its name, Dharma Productions continues to have several exciting projects in the pipeline, set to release next year.
