Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has finally responded to the disappointing box office performance of his latest release, Coolie.
Addressing the criticism at an event in Chennai, Lokesh said, “I can’t criticize audience expectations. For Coolie, I never said it was a time-travel story or part of the LCU, but audiences expected that. I will never write stories to meet their expectations. If it clicks, that’s good. If not, I’ll try again.”
Lokesh’s statement shows his commitment to staying true to his creative instincts rather than being influenced by external pressures.
While Coolie fell short of the hype, Lokesh remains determined to keep experimenting with his storytelling. There is a dilemma regarding Lokesh’s next directorial. It remains to be seen whether he will first direct Kaithi 2 or a multi-starrer featuring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
