Ghaati

Queen Anushka Shetty’s action-drama Ghaati, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, features Vikram Prabhu as the male protagonist. Presented by UV Creations and produced by Rajeev Reddy and Sai Babu Jagarlamudi under the banner of First Frame Entertainment, the movie releases on September 5. The promotional material has received a positive response from the audience. Ahead of the release, Anushka interacted with the media, and here is the transcript.

This is the 20th year in your film journey. Now you are coming up with a film like Ghaati. How are you feeling?

I am very excited. Sheelavathi is an amazing character, and I haven’t done something of that sort in the past. It has beautiful shades. I did Ghaati by stepping out of my comfort zone. From Arundhati, Rudramadevi, Baahubali, Bhaagamathie, I have always portrayed strong roles. Sheelavathi in Ghaati is also a powerful role, but with a completely different shade.

What’s your reaction after listening to the story?

When Krish Garu and writer Chintakindi Srinivas Rao narrated me the script, I found the culture in the Ghaati world to be very interesting. After reaching the locations, I felt we were offering a new experience to the audience in terms of characters, culture, and landscape.

Ghaati is about weed trading. Will it have a negative impact?

Krish Garu always takes up stories that are socially relevant. Weed trading and smuggling are burning issues in society currently. We made Ghaati as a commercial action entertainer with an underlying message. The film will spread positive vibes in society.

Ghaati marks the second film between you and Krish Garu. Will it reach expectations?

Definitely, it will. We have decided to make a spinoff of the Saroja character from Vedham. However, we felt it would be better if we came up with something organic. That is when Ghaati’s story came to us. I am indebted to Krish Garu for offering me memorable roles. Ghaati’s Sheelavathi character will stand out in my filmography.

We heard people came in large numbers to see you during the shoot. Tell us how you felt.

I am always thankful to the audience for their love. Such acceptance across regions was possible because of directors like Rajamouli, who gave me films like Baahubali. I consider this the true power of cinema. I am forever indebted to my directors and producers for offering me films like Arundathi and Baahubali.

Are you listening to new scripts?

Yes, I am doing that. I have a good lineup. I am doing a film in Malayalam, and it is my first Mollywood film. Also, I have signed an interesting project in Telugu. The announcement will come out soon.

You are not active on social media and are not seen in public either. What do you do in your leisure time?

I love traveling and reading books. I am now reading the Mahabharatham. I also watch films. In the last two years, I have spent more time with the family.
