Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie continues to make headlines in one way or another. The gangster action drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj has put up a strong show at the box office in the first weekend, earning about Rs. 400 crores, but the movie dropped big yesterday and today due to mixed word of mouth.
Coolie received A certificate from CBFC, which took everyone by surprise. After three decades, a Rajini film was certified A, and this indeed had an effect on the overall collections, with multiplexes restricting children. However, audiences were pleasantly surprised as the film didn’t contain extreme violence as expected. Many wondered why the movie was certified A in the first place.
Sun Pictures has now approached the Madras High Court, challenging the certification. The makers have reportedly requested the Court to direct the Censor Board to reduce the certification to a ‘U/A’. Netizens are again surprised since the makers acted too late, and enough damage has already occurred. Will the Madras High Court deliver a verdict in favor of the makers? That remains to be seen.
