The most awaited Rajinikanth action thriller Coolie was released worldwide yesterday amid huge expectations. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, this film received mixed reactions from critics and audiences. Some hardcore Rajini fans were upset with the way Lokesh dealt with the film.
However, there is unanimous applause for one thing Lokesh Kanagaraj delivered – Rajinikanth’s de-ageing look, showcased like never before. Fans loved the younger look of Rajinikanth, which suited him perfectly. A lot of effort went into achieving this de-ageing effect, and many claim it one of the best de-ageing looks ever seen on the Indian screen.
The portions featuring Rajinikanth in this avatar received thunderous applause and roaring responses in theatres, for which Lokesh was widely appreciated by fans and others alike.
However, apart from the de-ageing, there are several factors that led to negativity toward Coolie. The movie also stars Akkineni Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Upendra, Sabeer Shaher, and others in prominent roles. The movie is backed by Sun Pictures, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
The opening day collections are bound to be sensational, but it remains to be seen how the film will hold through the extended holiday weekend given the mixed reactions.
