8 Vasantalu’s extended version 12 Vasantalu is coming – And it’s not what you think

8 Vasantalu, directed by Phanindra Narsetti and starring Ananthika Sanilkumar, released in theatres on June 20, 2025, but failed to make a notable impact. Despite its emotional ambition and fresh casting, the film couldn’t connect with wider audiences during its theatrical run. It is now streaming on Netflix in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, giving it a second shot in the digital space.

Following the OTT release, Phanindra Narsetti revealed that 8 Vasantalu is a trimmed version of his original script, 12 Vasantalu. He plans to release the full screenplay as a PDF next week, offering audiences a chance to explore the story in its original, uncut form.

The director shared that several characters were removed from the final cut, including Ista, who plays Varun’s sister, along with Umar, Ramu, and Mamata, all part of the Varanasi track. He wrote, “I crushed Shuddhi Ayodhya to ashes,” referring to her journey through an accident, broken ribs, cancer, and an eventual emotional comeback.

Phanindra also mentioned key scenes that didn’t make it to screen, including a build-up to the Varanasi fight and sequences leading to the Taj Mahal, describing them as “magical.” A confrontation between Shuddhi and Varun, he said, features dialogue that “hits like bullets in your forehead.”

Interestingly, the character Rani Malini was not part of the original 12 Vasantalu script and was created specifically for the theatrical version of 8 Vasantalu. With the full screenplay set for release, viewers curious about the film’s deeper layers will soon have a chance to experience it as originally envisioned.
