Sudheer Babu and Sonakshi Sinha’s supernatural mythological horror thriller Jatadhara is set to release this Friday. The Telugu-Hindi bilingual is directed jointly by Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal. Umesh KR Bansal, Prerna Arora, Shivin Narang, and Nikhil Nanda jointly produced the film under the banners of Zee Studios and Ess Kay Gee Entertainment.
Ahead of the release, Sudheer Babu interacted with the media and here’s the transcript.
How did you feel when you first heard the script?
In our childhood we would have heard a lot of folk stories. There is a tale according to which money is buried under the earth which will be safeguarded by a ghost. Jatadhara is a folklore-inspired story set in modern times.
What all can people expect from Jatadhara?
Ghost hunting, family emotion, devotion, and tales about Lord Shivudu. These are the layers you will find in the film. The conflict point in the story will have a solution from our epics. The flashback episode excited me very much.
You became so emotional in the pre-release event. Is there any particular reason for it?
Since I haven’t done anything like that before, I became emotional (laughs). People in industry know how challenging it is to survive. I spoke that way so that many who doesn’t know about the industry will get to know the hardships here.
Describe your character in the film.
I play a ghost hunter who doesn’t believe in supernatural things. He believes in God and science. My role will offer more excitement to the audience.
Mythological films are getting good reception. Is it why you did Jatadhara?
No. The trend that is present now may not exist after a couple of years. My selection of script doesn’t depend on it. I never did something like that. I liked the script and gave my nod for Jatadhara. Everything about it is heading in the right direction.
Tell us about associating with North producers.
This is a Telugu film. Just that the producers are from North. They actually wanted to make a multi-starrer with me and Nani. However I didn’t like the script that they told narrated to me. They asked me if I was working on any script. We we were working on Jatadhara script back then. They too liked it and came onboard.
How was it working with Sonakshi Sinha? What are your upcoming projects?
She is a terrific actress. Sonakshi looks more like a South Indian and I am sure her performance will impress everyone. She added immense value to Dhana Pisaachi role. Coming to my upcoming films, I have signed a project with Rahul Ravindran. The concept of that film was never attempted before in Indian cinema. Also, I wanted to do Pullela Gopichand biopic.
