Thammudu

Thammudu OTT Release Date

Nithiin’s latest film Thammudu, produced by Dil Raju and directed by Venu Sriram, failed to impress at the box office. Released on July 4, 2025, the movie opened with modest expectations but turned out to be a commercial disaster.

Now, Thammudu is making headlines again with strong buzz about its OTT release. According to the reports, the film is likely to premiere on Netflix on August 1, 2025. However, an official announcement is still awaited.

The film features a star-studded cast including Sapthami Gowda, Laya, Varsha Bollamma, Saurabh Sachdeva, Swasika, Hari Teja, Srikanth Iyyengar, Temper Vamshi, and Chammak Chandra. Music by B. Ajaneesh Loknath also failed to resonate with audiences.

Despite the theatrical failure, the non-theatrical rights of Thammudu have offered some financial relief to the producers. Reports suggest that the film may incur a loss of nearly Rs. 30 crore, making it one of the biggest setbacks for Dil Raju in recent times.

Interestingly, this setback hasn’t stopped Dil Raju and Nithiin from teaming up again. Their next project, titled Yellamma, will be directed by Venu Yeldandi, who made a sensational debut with the critically acclaimed hit Balagam. Keerthy Suresh is confirmed to play the female lead, and production is expected to begin soon.

After Game Changer’s failure and Sankranthiki Vasthunnam’s blockbuster success, producer Dil Raju is back with Thammudu. Starring Nithiin, Varsha Bollamma, Sapthami Gowda, and Laya, the film hit theatres today. Here’s our take on the film.

Story:

A deadly factory blast in Vizag claims several lives. The owner, Azarwal (Saurabh Sachdeva), pressures officials for an exoneration, but honest officer Jhansi Kiranmayee (Laya) refuses to bend.

During a trip to the lawless Ambaragodugu for the Pagadalamma Jathara, Jhansi and her family are hunted down. Stepping in to save them is Jai (Nithiin), a mysterious archer. Who is Jai to Jhansi? Will Azarwal be punished? And how do Ratna (Sapthami Gowda) and Chitra (Varsha Bollamma) fit into it all? The rest unfolds on screen.

Plus Points:

The action sequences in the first half are decently choreographed and help maintain some momentum. Varsha Bollamma stands out among the cast. Her character is given emotional weight and a bit of action, and she handles both with conviction.

Laya gives a restrained and composed performance as Nithiin’s sister. Swasika, as Guthi, brings something fresh and manages to leave a mark in a few scenes. After Varsha, she makes the next strongest impression.

Minus Points:

The biggest drawback is the story. It offers no novelty and follows a very predictable structure. The character arcs are weak, and most scenes feel recycled from other films.

Laya’s character should have been emotionally impactful, but it is written without depth. Despite her return to films, she is not given a role that highlights her talent. In contrast, Varsha Bollamma gets a more layered part.

Characters like Ratna and Azarwal are poorly developed. Their actions feel forced, and they lack presence. Nithiin’s character, built around an archer angle, is barely explored. It ends up feeling superficial rather than meaningful.

Following an already slow first half, the second half drags even further. Action sequences turn repetitive, and the narrative loses direction. Emotional scenes fall flat, leaving the audience disconnected from both the characters and their journey.

Technical Aspects:

Director Venu Sriram fails to turn a promising setup into an engaging film. The screenplay is weak, and the narrative lacks cohesion. Key moments do not land, and the overall impact is missing.

The cinematography by K.V. Guhan, Sameer Reddy, and Setu is adequate but unremarkable. Ajaneesh Loknath’s music is routine and fails to lift the film. Prawin Pudi’s editing could have improved the pacing, especially in the latter half, where things feel drawn out. The production values are modest.

Verdict:

On the whole, Thammudu is another forgettable outing for Nithiin. The story lacks spark, the characters feel half-baked, and the emotional moments fail to resonate. Varsha Bollamma puts in an earnest effort, but that alone is not enough to save the film. With its weak script and sluggish execution, Thammudu fails to hit the target. It is best to look for better options this weekend.
