Chiranjeeva is the latest Telugu web film that arrived on Aha today. Starring Raj Tarun in the lead role, it is directed by Adhire Abhi (Abhinaya Krishna) and features Kushitha Kallapu as the heroine. Let’s see how the film has turned out.

Story:

Shiva (Raj Tarun) is a middle-class ambulance driver leading an ordinary life. After a strange accident, he suddenly gains a supernatural ability to see the lifespan of anyone he meets. At first, he tries to use this power to earn money and improve his situation. But when he loses someone very close to him, his perspective changes completely. What he decides to do with this unique ability and how he chooses to move forward form the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Raj Tarun is decent in a casual, easygoing role. He puts effort into bringing some humour and tries to keep the scenes lively with his timing. Raja Ravindra, as MLA Rajayya, is fine in his part and gives the role the required seriousness.

Actors like Balagam Sanjay and Racha Ravi do their best to support the narrative. These performances help the film occasionally, even when the writing does not fully cooperate.

Minus Points:

Although the storyline seems promising on paper, the execution does not do justice to it. The film struggles to maintain a steady tone, as serious moments are repeatedly undercut by misplaced comedy, weakening the emotional impact and disrupting the flow. This inconsistency makes it difficult for viewers to stay invested in the drama.

The character development is also thin. Shiva’s mother’s emotional arc lacks depth, and the heroine, Kushitha Kallapu, is barely integrated into the narrative, making her presence feel unnecessary. As the film progresses, the story loses momentum, and the drama becomes increasingly ineffective.

With a more focused screenplay and a clearer sense of tone, the concept could have been far more compelling. However, the uneven writing and loose presentation keep the film from reaching its potential.

Technical Aspects:

Director Adhire Abhi seems to have had a clear vision, but it does not translate effectively on screen. The emotional beats and dramatic moments needed stronger writing to hold the viewer’s attention. The background score is often unnecessarily loud and repeatedly tries to elevate the hero, which becomes distracting. The editing could have been much tighter, even for a short web film, while the cinematography and production values remain adequate for the format.

Verdict:

On the whole, Chiranjeeva ends up as a mediocre fantasy comedy drama. The premise has promise, but the uneven tone, dull characterisation, and weak execution keep the film from making an impact. Raj Tarun is decent in a few moments, but the overall narrative never becomes engaging enough. This one is not a recommended watch, and you can comfortably look for better options this weekend.
