Japanese anime film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle, simply Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, was released today in India and other regions in multiple languages, including Telugu, amid high expectations. This movie is the latest installment following the events of Mugen Train and continues the story of Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the Hashira as they battle stronger demons and face even greater challenges. Haruo Sotozaki is the director of this movie, and here is our take on it.

Story:

After the events of Mugen Train, Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the Hashira are drawn into Muzan Kibutsuji’s deadly trap, the Infinity Castle. Inside, the remaining Upper Rank demons await, each stronger and more dangerous than the last. Fierce battles erupt, testing the slayers’ courage, strength, and resolve. Tanjiro faces Akaza in an emotional, high-stakes fight, joined by Giyu in an epic showdown. Whether they manage to defeat the demons or face even greater peril forms the suspenseful heart of the story.

Plus Points:

The first thing that stands out is the animation, which is top-notch as expected and a major reason anime fans consider it superior to regular movies. The Infinity Castle, with its intricate shifting forms and attention to tiny details, is visually stunning.

The battle between Akaza and Tanjiro dominates the screen and is the best-executed sequence in the film. The emotional connection woven into the fight makes it both thrilling and heartfelt.

Another notable encounter is between Shinobu and Doma, a cheerful yet deadly demon. Her attempt to defeat him using poison and his clever counter-strategies make this sequence engaging.

Zenitsu’s brief but significant battle with Kaigaku also adds emotional weight despite limited screen time.

The second half of the movie works better emotionally, with Tanjiro’s struggles taking center stage and Zenitsu contributing meaningfully in his brief moments.

Minus Points:

The narration style, common in manga adaptations, feels different from usual movies. Frequent backstory intercuts during battles, while informative, become repetitive and slow the pace. Flashback sequences, particularly those of Upper Rank Three demon Akaza, feel overly long and slightly dragged out.

The voice acting, characteristic of anime, may feel exaggerated or over-the-top to newcomers, and using this style consistently during action sequences does not always feel natural.

While Tanjiro and Akaza dominate most of the screen time, other important characters such as Zenitsu and Nezuko do not get enough opportunity to shine.

Technical Aspects:

Haruo Sotozaki handles the film well as a director. The second half is more emotionally engaging, though some scenes feel extended. The music complements the narrative effectively, camera angles are precise, and editing could have been tighter in parts. Ufotable’s production values remain exceptional, enhancing the visual experience. The Telugu dubbing is so cool and done very well.

Verdict:

On the whole, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle is a decent watch. The animation, stunning visuals, emotional arcs, and battles are executed effectively, especially in the second half. However, prolonged scenes, repetitive flashbacks, and uneven character focus prevent it from being exceptional. Fans who have followed the series from the beginning will find it highly satisfying, while newcomers may see it as a passable film.
