Siddharth returns to the silver screen alongside R Sarathkumar in 3 BHK, a film marketed as a pure family drama. With a simple story and emotional undertone, the teaser and trailer gave the impression of a grounded narrative that might appeal to families. Now that the film has hit theatres, does it manage to connect? Here’s our take.

Story:

Vasudevan (Sarath Kumar) is a middle-class man who dreams of owning a home. He lives with his wife Shanti (Devayani), son Prabhu (Siddharth), and daughter Aarthi (Meetha Raghunath). Struggling financially, Vasudevan is unable to fulfill his dream. He pins his hopes on his son, believing that Prabhu can achieve what he could not with a good education and job. Whether that dream is realised and how Aarthi’s life unfolds shape the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

The film picks a theme that many families can relate to. The desire to own a home and the emotional weight behind that goal is something countless middle-class households experience. The film remains focused on this sentiment throughout.

Sarathkumar is effective as a responsible father. His calm and balanced performance carries the emotional side of the story well. Siddharth, too, puts in a sincere performance. His makeover and commitment to the character are notable. A few scenes between the father and son stand out.

Rana Daggubati’s voice-over adds some value to the opening. The emotional intent is clear, and the film tries to stay rooted in reality.

Minus Points:

The biggest issue is the screenplay. While the story is simple and genuine, the narration turns dull quickly. The pacing is slow, and scenes begin to feel repetitive. The same emotion is presented repeatedly without any new layers or turns.

The second half suffers the most. Scenes stretch without adding anything substantial, and the film starts to test patience as nothing fresh unfolds. There are clear similarities with other films, especially Bommarillu. Siddharth’s presence only strengthens the comparison. The influence is too obvious in several scenes.

Yogi Babu is underutilised in a forgettable role. His presence could have brought much-needed relief, but the writing fails him. The lack of humour and variation in emotional tone is a drawback. A few scenes feel familiar and predictable, which limits the film’s impact.

Technical Aspects:

Director Sri Ganesh had a relatable idea, but couldn’t convert it into a compelling film. The story stays honest, but the execution lacks grip. The screenplay is flat, and the presentation feels dry. Music fails to make an impression. The background score is serviceable but doesn’t elevate the emotion. Cinematography is fine, capturing the tone of the film without distractions. Editing is weak, particularly in the second half, where scenes drag on. Production values are decent, and dubbing is neat.

Verdict:

On the whole, 3 BHK starts with a promising and emotionally rooted idea, but the execution lacks strength. The screenplay is flat, the pacing is slow, and the emotional moments feel repetitive rather than impactful. Siddharth and Sarathkumar put in sincere efforts, but the film doesn’t offer anything new or engaging beyond the surface. What could have been a warm and meaningful family drama ends up feeling dull, stretched, and routine.
