Raid 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Bollywood star Ajay Devgn’s superhit movie ‘Raid,’ has been released worldwide today. Check out our review to see if the movie has managed to impress the audience.
Story:
Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn) once again appears as a sincere Income Tax Officer. The sequel’s story is all about the 75th raid in Amay Patnaik’s career. He raids Dada Manohar Bhai (Riteish Deshmukh), a man with a good reputation and influence in society. Interestingly, Amay does not find any illegal assets with Dada Bhai during the raid. This leads to Amay’s suspension. Does Dada Bhai really possess illegal assets? How does Amay manage to seize Dada Bhai’s illegal assets? The film unfolds the challenges he faces in this mission.
Plus Points:
For those who have seen the movie Raid, the sequel’s plot feels connected. Ajay Devgn impresses with his signature, subtle performance once again. He captivates the audience with his intense performance. Riteish Deshmukh, too, shines in his role.
Although the story of this film seems very simple, the thrilling elements manage to engage the audience. Compared to the first half, the screenplay in the second half is more engaging for the audience.
In terms of music, the background score in the second half works well. It helps the audience connect with the story. The interval block also impresses the viewers.
Minus Points:
Since the story feels familiar, audiences may find it difficult to focus on the film right from the beginning. Adding to this, the slow-paced screenplay tests their patience. The less said about the lag scenes, the better.
Even in the second half, it feels like the film relies too much on music. While the screenplay is engaging, the editing could have been better.
Even though several music directors contribute to this film with their songs, it’s Amit Trivedi’s background score that stands out and surpasses the rest.
Technical Aspects:
Although director Raj Kumar Gupta chose a familiar plot, he should have taken more care of its execution. The snail-paced screenplay hampers the film to a great extent. Even though the lead cast performed well, the narration in the first half is a drawback for Raid 2. The cinematography is decent, while the editing could have been a lot better.
Verdict:
Overall, Raid 2 works to some extent as a crime thriller. Although the first half tests the audience’s patience, the second half keeps them engaged. Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh come up with impressive performances. However, the lethargic first half, lack of depth in the narration, and a weak climax are significant drawbacks. Fans of the crime thriller genre may not find Raid 2 very appealing. It is recommended to consider other options this weekend.
