Many might be wondering, while reading our latest piece on Prasanth Varma’s upcoming film Mahakali directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, about the Kingdom actress who’s leading this female-superhero project.
Yes, it’s true – Bhoomi Shetty, who played Gauri, Vijay Deverakonda’s sister-in-law and Satya Dev’s wife in Kingdom, is now stepping into the title role. But Kingdom wasn’t her first appearance, and there’s a lot more to her story.
- Born on 19 February 1998, Bhoomi Shetty is 27 years old (as of 2025). She hails from Kundapura, a small coastal town in Karnataka’s Udupi district. Her parents are Bhaskar Shetty and Baby Shetty.
- Bhoomi did her schooling in Kundapura and went on to study at R.N. Shetty P.U. College for her pre-university course. She later graduated from AMC Engineering College, Bengaluru, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Though she studied engineering, Bhoomi always had a creative streak. From a young age, she was drawn to performing arts and trained in Yakshagana, the traditional theatre form of coastal Karnataka, which shaped her stage presence and expressiveness.
- Her acting career began with the Kannada television serial Kinnari, where she first caught the audience’s eye. She then appeared in the Telugu daily soap Ninne Pelladatha, which widened her reach across South India.
- In 2019, she participated in Bigg Boss Kannada Season 7, which brought her massive visibility and helped her connect with a wider audience.
- Bhoomi made her film debut with Ikkat (2021), a light-hearted Kannada comedy that became a success on Amazon Prime Video.
- She followed it up with roles in Sharathulu Varthisthai and Kingdom, steadily building her presence on the big screen.
Now, with Mahakali, Bhoomi Shetty takes a big leap forward. Written by Prasanth Varma and produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under RKD Studios, the film is set against a West Bengal backdrop with Akshaye Khanna playing Shukracharya.
